On April 14th, 2015, Courtney Summers  who is an author of young adult fiction challenges the public to "take the opportunity to tell the girls you know—and the ones you don’t—that they are seen, heard and loved. Share advice. Be encouraging. Tell us about or thank the girls in your life who have made a difference in yours. Use the hashtag #ToTheGirls along with your personal message of support and encouragement across your social media platforms" (Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, Instagram ... Continue Reading

She Married Herself

I read this story earlier this week and of course as everyone else, I was curious about her story.  Yasmin Elbey decided to marry herself in celebration of God giving her 40 yrs in this beautiful world!  People may have laughed at her decision to marry herself, but it makes sense.  Why not celebrate you and spend lavishly on your special day.  I commend her for this idea and that she used her ceremony to share the message of self love to her guest by way of three ministers. This morning ... Continue Reading

Tell Us How You Really Feel

When I heard about this clip yesterday I had to do a Google search and to my disbelief I was shocked. So shocked that I had to look at the clip 3-4 times.  Each time I laughed because Charlo Greene was so matter of fact with her delivery.  I wasn't shocked about her "cannabis movement", it was her flipped shoulder shrugging demeanor that got me!  I wasn't even offended by the F it at the time and I'm still not.  So I went on to check her FB out because there had to be more to her that ... Phenomenal Woman

Dr. Maya Angelou reads "Phenomenal Woman"...  I heard about Dr. Maya Angelou's passing today during my travels back to the west coast.  I was  stunned as I read the words from my soulful lil sis.  She was recalling using Dr. Maya Angelou Phenomenal Woman for her quote in high school and got to see her at Bennett College. As I recall my encounter with Dr. Maya Angelou's work, it was in high school (Brookline, MA) as we were reading many literary works for our senior papers.  I Know The ... Continue Reading

Dr. Maya Angelou’s Reflection of Her Mother

The beauty of Dr. Maya Angelou was her ability to find good in any situation especially the story she shares with Oprah about her mother. Once you LOVE someones LIFE, you understand their LIFE. Her mother may not have had the skills as a young mother, but she planted seeds that inspired Dr. Maya Angelou to greatness through her works. Continue Reading

Harvard student Kimiko Matsuda-Lawrence wanted to bring awareness of black students and the stereotypes they experience at Harvard University. Kimiko's idea turned into a campaign for the black students at Harvard University and it also influenced students internationally at Oxford and Cambridge to do the same. Hi five to Kimiko for using hers and the experiences of others to spread awareness as well as influencing conversations that stereotypes still exist even in institutions that promote ... International Pretty Brown Girl Day

It's International Pretty Brown Girl Day This is a day that should get more attention.  International Pretty Brown Girl Day is the movement of Sheri Crawley who wanted to teach African American girls to appreciate and LOVE their skin color.  Her story is remarkable and speaks to issues in society and the African American community regarding the messages on skin color.  As a mother raising a "Pretty Brown Girl", I want her to LOVE her skin color and never feel less than because of it. ... I Feel Your Spirit…

The scripture in Matthew 21:16 says, And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise? This little girl embodies the word in Matthew and she is cute as a button! Adults must work on being more childlike! Continue Reading

My Euphoric State after viewing “Black Women Walking”

I attended the one act play "Black Women Walking last night at the Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Center of Phoenix.  It was a remarkable play filled with passion for life, dreams, LOVE and GOD.  These women were unselfish in their acts and managed to impact history by defying the odds.  The tag line (Black Women Walking) that was recited through out the play resonated with me even as I write this blog.  When I see a Black Woman Walking, I will recognize every step that she takes has ... Help Me Save 300

I heard about this unfortunate event in the news, but I had not taken the time to really read about it until this weekend.  Ex NFL player Brian Holloway's home was broken into and vandalized by 300 young people.  The incident has gotten much attention in the media and social media.  The outrage of the act committed is unexplainable and outright disrespectful.   The young people that participated in the activities at the Holloway home had no care in the world nor did they seem to feel any ... The Face of America

Dante de Blasio son to Bill de Blasio and Chirlane McCray demeonstrates in the campaign ad "the new faces of America". Many may not want to acknowledge it or see it! The de Blasio family dynamics and personal story is a tale that LOVE does conquer all and change is inevitable. Their message for change is a reflection in their children. I admire the marriage of Bill de Blasio and Chirlane McCray. They appear to have a recipe for a successful marriage despite all the obstacles they may have ... Continue Reading

Kevin Krigger & Victor Lebron Crucians Making History At The Kentucky Derby

Proud and excited I am to witness Kevin Krigger and Victor Lebron make history in the Kentucky Derby which is scheduled for May 3 & May 4.  Kevin and Victor both hail from none other than my birthplace, St. Croix United States Virgin Islands. They are about to energize a sport that has a history of black jockeys winning the highest honor in the 1800's.    It has to be purpose that has allowed Kevin and Victor to be afforded this opportunity. They will become iconic which is truly ... Continue Reading

On Sunday at Fist New Life Missionary Baptist Church in Phoenix Arizona, the congregation was graced with the pressence of Prophet Luther Mckinstry III.  Hearing him give the word before he shared his story really brought it home for me.  Prolific, Charasmatic, Posed and Blessed with the word of God; his message had me on the edge of my seat.  God sure knew where to lead me Sunday morning.  I knew he had a message to bring and a story to tell.  You know you can just tell that about some ...
